Andrea Mitchell
Andrea Mitchell is an American television anchor and journalist for NBC News based in Washington D.C. As a child living in New York City, Mitchell earned a BA in English literature at the University of Pennsylvania. Mitchell started as journalist for television and radio working in Philadelphia, KYW Radio and TV. Mitchell was a reporter at the CBS-affiliate WDVM-TV, (then WTOP), situated in Washington DC. In Washington, she was appointed general correspondent by NBC News a year later. She began covering the White House in 1981 and was promoted to chief congressional correspondent by 1988. Mitchell was appointed Chief White House reporter in 1992 as well as the chief of the Foreign Affairs department at NBC News. Mitchell has been at times on TV news show Meet the Press as a panelist as well as host. She was on the panel during the 1988 presidential debates, which pitted George Bush against Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is the wife of Alan Greenspan former chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell received the Goldsmith Career Award in 2005 by the John F. Kennedy School of Government to recognize her excellence in the field of journalism. In 2004 The Radio-Television News Directors Association gave Mitchell the Leonard Zeidenberg Award to recognize of her contribution to the protection of First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell started covering in the White House in 1981-1988 for NBC News during Ronald Reagan's second term as president. She reported on a number of noteworthy events like arms control, taxes on the budget, as well as the Iran Contra scandal. Mitchell also attended numerous summits in the company of President Reagan with Mikhail Gorbachev.
